Mud Dewatering System
Mud Dewatering System (MDS) is an essential piece of equipment in the drilling and mining industry, designed to treat and dewater drilling fluids or mud. It helps to separate solids from the liquid phase in the mud, reducing the water content and enabling the reuse of the fluid in the drilling process.
Drilling Mud Dewatering Unit provides a process of chemically enhanced configuration to remove the fine solids less than 5 microns from the water based drilling fluids.
As it known that traditional solids control equipments like shale shaker, desander desilter, and decanter centrifuge will removes solids upper than 5 microns, for colloidal-size particles which is less than 5 microns will build up in the drilling mud system. To maintain the drilling mud properties, the operators have to dilute the drilling fluids with water, this consumes more water and create more drilling waste.
Dewatering by Polymer unit + Centrifuge
S/N | Product | Short Description |
1 | 3-chamber automatic dosing unit | Used to mixing and aging of Polymers to coagulate the fine solids in the WBM, normally we can use PAC or PAM agent |
2 | Pipeline with static mixer | The pipeline will link the dosing unit with decanter centrifuge, the aging polymer and waste WBM will be mixed fully in the static mixer, and then feeding to decanter centrifuge |
3 | Centrifuge Feed Pump | Normally we adopt progressive cavity pump as feeding pump to centrifuge. The spent WBM will be transferred to the static mixer continuously by feed pump, the feeding will be without pulse, stable feeding |
4 | Decanter Centrifuge | The spent WBM after mixed with polymer will be separated by high-speed decanter centrifuge, it is easy to get clean water from centrifuge; the mud cake moisture normally can be about 40%~50% |
5 | Mud skip or tanks | Mud Skips or tanks may be required to collect the dry mud discharged from centrifuge |
6 | Water Tanks | Water tanks may be required to collect the clean water discharged from centrifuge. |
The composition parts of centrifuge dewatering unit as above table, Features of Centrifuge dewatering unit as below:
· With same cost, the treating capacity is much smaller compared with filter press dewatering unit
· Continuously non-stop operation, the operation requires professional personnel to operate the dosing unit and centrifuges;
· Centrifuge with polymer unit can be designed into one 40ft container, easy transportation and fast installation
Mud dewatering system is used in the removal of water from solid material or soil by wet classification, centrifugation, filtration, or similar solid-liquid separation processes. As the drilling industry is regulated by a myriad of environmental regulations that continue to become increasingly more stringent, having the right solids control and fluid dewatering/waste oil treatment system have become vital to successful drilling operations. Fluid dewatering systems presents a great deal of benefits and advantages. One such benefit includes discharge compliance, in which many cases result in a “zero-discharge" or “closed-loop system." In addition, the importance of treating waste oil from the drilling fluid is vital to maximizing profits.
Mud dewatering system also maximizes drilling fluid recovery, ultimately lowering overall mud costs as well as disposal and transportation expenses. Furthermore, with these systems, mud properties improve and as mud properties improve, so too does the rate of penetration. With a “zero-discharge" or “closed-loop system" rigs can operate without mud pits, therefore reducing the location footprint and environmental impact.
