TR Shear Pump handles fluid transfer and high-shear mixing in the same unit. It is suited to drilling fluid preparation where polymers, bentonite, or other additives need thorough dispersion and hydration.
Drilling fluid enters the pump and passes through the high-speed impeller. Strong shear is generated as the impeller moves the fluid through the pump. The shear breaks up polymer and clay agglomerates and distributes the additives more evenly through the mud.
Polymer can form partially hydrated lumps, often called “fish eyes,” when it first contacts the fluid. High-shear circulation breaks up these lumps and exposes more of the polymer to the surrounding liquid, supporting more even hydration.
The pump forms part of the mud preparation or conditioning loop. Fluid is taken from the mud tank, passed through the shear pump, and returned to the tank for continued mixing. The same unit provides both circulation and high-shear treatment.
