Hook Strip Soft Shaker Screen is a flexible shale shaker screen made from stainless steel wire mesh. The screen has hook-strip edges for tensioning on the shaker deck, but does not have a metal backing plate. It is commonly used on older shale shakers with this type of screen mounting.
The screen usually has two or three bonded layers of stainless steel mesh. The finer upper layers handle the main screening, while the coarser bottom layer supports the mesh and also contributes to screening.
For installation, the side hooks are fitted to the shaker deck and the screen is stretched into place. Drilling fluid passes through the mesh as the shaker moves drilled solids toward the discharge end.
With no metal backing plate underneath the mesh, the screen has more open screening surface and weighs less than a hook-strip flat screen.
