HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) mud recycling system is specialized solids control solution designed to clean and reuse drilling fluid during trenchlesspipeline installation. It processes returned mud from underground, removes drilled solids, and returns cleaned mud to the drilling system.
The system integrates a suite of equipment, including shale shakers, desanders and desilters to effectively separate drilling wastes of different particle sizes. It also features a jet mixing unit is incorporated for adding and blending drilling fluid additives, with circulation maintained through a mixing hopper to ensurehomogeneous slurry preparation that meets performance requirements for reuse. The processed mud is then conveyed back to the horizontal directionaldrilling rig by mud pumps, enabling continuous circulation.
Mud tanks are used for storage, mixing, and circulation of drilling fluid. Agitators and mud guns help maintain uniform fluid properties inside the tanks.
Centrifugal pumps are used to transfer mud between different stages of the system, ensuring continuous circulation.
A mixing system is included to adjust mud properties by adding bentonite or other additives when needed.
Working Process
The drilling fluid carrying drilled cuttings returns from the borehole to the recycling system. Large solids are first removed by the shale shaker. Fine particles are then separated by hydrocyclones, including desanders and desilters.
Clean drilling fluid is transferred back to the active mud tank and recirculated into the drilling process. This closed-loop system significantly reduces fresh water and bentonite consumption while maintaining proper mud properties.
The HDD mud recycling system continuously processes return drilling fluid, separates solids, and returns clean mud back into the circulation system. This closed-loop process helps maintain stable drilling conditions and reduces environmental impact.
HDD mud recycling systems are available in different processing capacities depending on rig size and project requirements.
System configuration can be customized, including tank volume, shaker model, hydrocyclone size, and pump power.
Mobile and skid-mounted designs are available for easy transport and fast setup in field conditions.
